Walnuts are the one nut shown to significantly improve artery function, and in the PREDIMED trial the added-nuts group had about half as many strokes. Flaxseeds improve LDL cholesterol, artery function, and blood pressure, with ground flax producing one of the most potent blood-pressure drops ever recorded from a food, roughly 15 over 7 mmHg.
